An intriguing and infrequently encountered deciduous shrub comprised of high gloss elliptical leaves along thin, green enhanced twigs. In spring, plants have the peculiar ability to develop a cluster of delicate olive-tinged flowers at the center of each leaf. Yes, you read that correctly, the center of each leaf! In time the flowers develop into blueberry-sized black fruit that remain perched in their unusual position well into fall. Plants can be expected to reach 5-6' in height and breadth and should be cultivated in bright shade with rich, consistently moist soils.
