Named after the God of healing, Asclepias has been used as a medicinal as well as a food source by Native Americans; the young leaves were cooked and eaten as a vegetable. Similar to the common milkweed, with the exception of the lanceolate leaves and light pink-rose purple flowers, this native plant is now commonly used to attract Monarch butterflies. Plant in full sun and moist sandy loam soil.
