Andropogon gerardii Big Bluestem

Big bluestem is a tall, perennial grass capable of creating an imposing, upright architectural garden presence. Many selections offer fine-textured foliage that evolve in color from blue-green to reddish-burgundy through the season. This coupled with ornamental seed heads in late summer and fall make quite a statement. Plants have traditionally been circulated under the common name "turkey foot grass" which relates to the structure of the inflorescense and its three finger-like clusters.
