Shop Broken Arrow Nursery for rare and unusual plants

Welcome to the start of our Spring 2010 Mail Order Season!

As promised we’ve added more than 150 new and exciting treasures to the on-line catalog this year!  In addition, we’ve decided to make available a selection of plants in larger, 2 gallon sizes.  We’re confident that you’ll find these larger plants easy to care for and ready for a permanent home in the landscape.  In response to your suggestions we continue to refine the system used to search the online content and continue to add many high quality images to showcase the ornamental qualities of the plants we grow.  We hope that these additions and improvements will make your shopping experience more exciting and fulfilling.

Cornus kousa
'Ohkan'

Among the most exciting plants available this season include Cornus kousa 'Ohkan', a choice new kousa dogwood showcasing deep green leaves boldly margined with clean gold variegation.  Picea pungens 'Spring Blast' is also a star boasting a spring flush of creamy-white needles followed by pewter-blue older growth.  Equally as colorful are the graceful, long needles of the variegated Himalayan pine (Pinus wallichiana ‘Zebrina’) which are flecked and brushed with prominent yellow bands.

Hydrangea arborescens
'Green Dragon'
Native enthusiasts should find many noteworthy additions such as the keystone button bush (Cephalanthus occidentalis ‘Keystone’) which struts an abundance of spherical, creamy-white flowers in mid-summer.   Not to be outdone, the unusual twisted and highly serrated foliage of Hydrangea arborescens 'Green Dragon' will delight those seeking out something a little different to add to the summer border.  In addition, the ever impressive Cornus alternifolia Golden Shadows makes a return appearance with its jaw-dropping gold margined leaves and horizontal, tiered framework.

Acer pectinatum ssp. forrestii
'Alice'
Foliage continues to be one of our favorite plant qualities and like minded fanatics will be delighted to see a number of exciting offerings throughout the catalog.  The choice Aralia elata ‘Silver Umbrella’ is back with its amazing 40” tropical-esk, bi-pinnately compound leaves each edged with a fine white margin.  Not only is this stunner as rare as it gets but it also rivals any plant for foliage presence....period!  Another noteworthy small tree is Acer pectinatum ssp. forrestii ‘Alice’ which flaunts deep green, 3-lobed leaves that are brushed with shrimp-pink and red coloration.

Eryngium bourgatii
Sticking with the foliage theme, our perennial selection is loaded with color as well!  The sharp, prickly leaves of Eryngium bourgatiistand out in a crowd showcasing an exceptional pewter-blue and silver venation pattern.  Equally impressive are the unusual, crinkled, variegated leaves of Polygonatum x hybridum ‘Grace Barker’ which are sure to impress in the shade garden.  No discussion of foliage is complete without mentioning hostas!  As you’ll see, we’ve added many fine selections this season including a range of forms showcasing varied foliage color as well as twisted and corrugated leaves.  Among our favorites is Hosta x ‘Teeny Weenie Bikini’, a diminutive form with wedge-shaped leaves marked with pale yellow centers and emerald edges!

With all these choice plants available we’re sure you’ll find a few to take home.  That said, GIFT CARDS are always available for those who wish to take the guess-work out of gift giving.  Our GIFT CARDS can be purchased in any dollar amount and can be forwarded directly to the recipient with a hardcopy of our most recent catalog.  What a perfect present for the difficult to buy plant fanatic. It’s always the right size, right color and they are sure to find plenty of plants to choose from.

As a final thought, many thanks to those who have taken time to comment on our new website.  We value your thoughts, suggestions and critiques and hope you’ll keep them coming.  They’re the most important tool we use to figure out how to make our catalog and shopping system more enjoyable for all.

Happy and healthy gardening.
